The novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding is not appealing to young audiences because it is hard to read and understand, it is a slow book in the beginning which makes it even harder to read. It also makes fun of people who are fat, like how they call the bigger sized kid piggy which is bullying. In the book the kid cries because of his nickname. Since it’s in the novel, it might leave kids to believe that it is cool/funny to make fun of people for their weight and the way they look which encourages them to do so. The book also has some murder which I won’t completely spoil, but it might teach kids that if they ever get in a dire situation that it would be a good way to survive, but in reality it isn’t a good idea. They do some dark things to survive which children should not think that it’s ok if they were in the same situation and think that they should do what the people in the novel did. For little children, it would not be a good idea for kids to read this novel because since they’re young, they’ll believe anything and they shouldn’t believe that this is a good survival tactic, nor should they believe that bullying is fun and cool. If kids want to read books about survival then it’s ok because it can teach them a little on how to survive in bad situations, but this book is more about every man for himself just with horrible ideas in some places. There are some good ideas that anyone could do and should do, but some are just bad and shouldn’t be done. The book is not good for young people to read because bullying is not good, nor is it good to survive the way they tried to do.

The book lord of the flies would not appeal to the adolescent audience because it's hard to read. It's not the words that is hard to read it's that the book is everywhere and it gets really confusing. It has some scenes that would not be appealing to the young adolescent crowd such as nudity and cursing. And i heard later in the book there is extreme violence and cannibalism. the books that may appeal to the majority would be less violent books or books with none at all. Back to the book it also makes fun of some serious medical conditions such as asthma. the book makes the reader confused about whom the leader of the kids is and where some characters just don't show up any more. again in conclusion this book is confusing and ultra violent[from what i heard].

Trey, I think that's a good line to draw in the sand - at what age can you read it and recognize that it's not meant to be a model for living or survival?

Baley, I found it a bit confusing, too. It may be a well-loved classic for some, but I don't think it is for me! Are you enjoying it, though?
