The novel Running Loose, by Chris Crutcher is an appealing novel because Louie
the main character has it made with the starting spot on the football team, and a cute girlfriend
that loves him, but he faces some trouble. Our age of teenagers love sports, cute girls, and good
friends, which is what this book is all about. Louie is the best player on the field, and off the field
has a cute girl named Becky she just straight out loves him to death. She wants to go on dates all the time even though his mom doesn’t like him out late. Because of good friends, he makes great decisions. Louie is kind of a bad boy, but tries to do the right thing, but Becky can make him do anything with just a smile. This could be bad for many reasons, because make him do something bad, that he shouldn’t do. The characters are interesting to readers and they can see that a bad girlfriend can lead someone into trouble. His friends support him a lot in his games, which is what true friends should do in the first place. Having good friends can push you or bust you up in real life, also be great, or bad. All in all this is a fantastic book for kids to read, and learn more about life and friends, so I truly recommend it.
